Dear Martinez Family,

I was so very sorry to hear of your tragic loss. As i watched the news reports and listened to his fellow firefighters speak about Todd it became clear that he was a very special individual, and his loss will be deeply felt by your family, his fellow firefighters, friends and the community that he served. Death is such a devastating thing, and even more so when it comes to one so young and vibrant such as Todd. At such times we often find ourselves searching for answers as to why such a thing would happen. But we many times find more questions than satisfying answers. But I have always found that God's word the Bible has not only comfort for us at times like this, but also answers to our most perplexing questions. God's word at Ecclesiastes 9:11 speaks of our fragile human plight when it says that "... time and unexpected events overtake them all." So death can come as a result of old age, sickness, or a tragic and at times a senseless accident. But we are not without hope in this world my dear friends, because God's word also tells us at Revelation 21:3,4,5 that soon our loving God Jehovah will bring and end to such tragedies and the suffering that they bring when it says: "Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
5 And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful* and true.” Yes, soon we can look forward to an end to all of the things that bring us pain and sorrow. And i personally look forward to enjoying these beautiful conditions right here on earth after Jehovah God makes our earth a paradise once again and resurrects our loved ones and brings them back to us happy and healthy once again. Because when we think about the scripture in Revelation and the former things such as pain and the sorrow that death brings being done away with we have to reason that such conditions never existed in heaven, so when God speaks of "...making all things new" he must be speaking of our earth. And we can be certain that these things will come about because God's word at Titus 1:2, tells us that these truths from the Bible is ..."based on a hope of the everlasting life that that God, who cannot lie, promised long ago..." I hope that these few brief thoughts will be helpful to you at this very sad time. And please be assured that my prayers are with you and your family. And may Jehovah God the "...Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort..." be with you.

Sincerely,
Vernon Burgess
