Mrs. Eva Mae (Tommie) Hege Stewart, 87, resident of Kernersville, died December 15th, 2013 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Stewart was born October 12th, 1926 in Davidson County, a daughter to the late Manie and Letha Clinard Hege. A resident of this area all her life, she was a member of Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was co-owner of Spectrum Furniture, where she was active in helping her husband operate the business. She loved auto racing, having co-owned Tarheel Speedway, and also loved to travel. In 1944 she married Howard Clifton (Cliff) Stewart who survives of the residence. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a grandson. Also surviving are four children, Henrietta Wheeler of Thomasville, Jackie Johnson of Asheboro, June Stewart of High Point and Howard Clifton Stewart Jr. of High Point; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
