Tommy Joe Wilmoth, Sr.

ARCHDALE- Tommy Joe Wilmoth, Sr., 78, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017.

He was born on August 20, 1938, son of the late Joe “Cotton” and Del Martin Wilmoth. A resident of this area most of his life, he was a self-employed truck driver; call sign “Pathfinder” and had driven for 60 years. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult #3 Sunday school class. Tommy Joe enjoyed working, fishing and riding motorcycles. His true love and passion was spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren.  He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and he will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were a son, Ty Ray Wilmoth and his brothers, Ralph and Leroy Wilmoth.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of 31 years, Jean U. Wilmoth; his sons, T.J. Wilmoth, Jr., and Trent Wilmoth.; his sister, Phyllis Ann Wilmoth. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tyler, Makala, Emma and Anna;  his step children, John Nurney, Jr., and wife Donna, Donna Stanley and husband James, Woody Nurney and Wanda Beasley and Husband Jeff; 6 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.  

A service to celebrate Tommy Joe’s life will be held Tuesday, May 30, at 2 p.m., at Colonial Baptist Church, with Reverend Steve Jarvis officiating.  Interment will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. His family will receive friends on Monday, May 29, from 6 until 8 pm, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
